The FDA is nearing release of new cadmium guidance for foods consumed by babies and young children, marking the next major milestone in the agency’s Closer to Zero initiative to reduce exposure to toxic elements in the food supply.

The forthcoming guidance follows years of scientific research, exposure assessments and risk-management work focused on cadmium contamination. It is expected to provide additional insight into how the FDA may approach action levels, exposure reduction strategies and preventive controls for foods commonly consumed by infants and young children.
