John Herlihy is a Senior Research Analyst for AgencyIQ’s food division where he helps write FDA Today: Food as well as analyses of food regulations. John’s expertise includes the USDA, biotechnology, supply chains, and international standards.
Before joining AgencyIQ, John served at the USDA on issues related to the regulation of food labeling and agricultural biotechnology. After entering federal service on an AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellowship, John worked on interagency groups to understand, harmonize, and communicate USDA, FDA, and EPA regulations and policies. A passionate educator, John was a professor at Sweet Briar College in Amherst, Va., teaching biochemistry and genetics and has volunteered at the United States Botanic Garden. John received a Ph.D. in plant pathology from Virginia Tech, and an undergraduate degree in biology from James Madison University. He lives in Washington, D.C., with his wife and daughters.
