European Health Ministers suggest changes to the EC’s proposed revision of EMA fees regulation

Earlier this week, E.U. health ministers discussed a proposal to revise the way that the EMA collects and distributes user fees from the companies it regulates for various regulatory activities. The deliberations focused on two areas: A “targeted revision” of fees for seven key services to better reflect cost, and the potential to limit the power of the European Commission to adjust fees through delegated acts.

Regulatory Background

The EMA was established through the Founding Regulation in 1993 and became operational on February 1, 1995.
