OSHA Expands Criteria for Severe Violator Program

The Occupational Safety and Hazard Administration announced new instructions for the Severe Violator Enforcement Program, significantly updating the program that was begun in 2010. The new instructions announced on September 15, 2022, will expand the types of hazards covered under the program to encourage facilities to stay up-to-date on hazard and safety regulations.

Regulatory Background

  • The Severe Violator Enforcement Program (SVEP) is a program run by the Occupational Safety and Hazard Administration (OSHA), which OSHA instituted to more effectively focus enforcement on employers who consistently violate OSHA regulations.
  • The SVEP was born from a previous OSHA program, the Enhanced Enforcement Program (EEP) in 2010.
