EU Commission unveils proposal to add new hazard classes to the CLP Regulation

The European Commission has published draft legislation introducing new hazard classes to the Classification, Labeling and Packaging Regulation. The proposal represents a major ambition of the initiative to revise the EU’s principal regulatory scheme for identifying and communicating hazards presented by chemicals throughout the supply chain.

What is the Classification, Labeling and Packaging Regulation?

  • The Regulation on the Classification, Labeling and Packaging of Chemicals ( CLP – 1272/2008/EC) is one of the European Union’s two main cross-sectoral chemical management regulations. In combination with the Regulation on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH – 1907/2006/EC), its principal goals are to ensure the protection of human health and the environment while safeguarding the free movement of chemical substances and mixtures.
