The Environmental Protection Agency has finalized one-time comprehensive reporting and recordkeeping requirements for asbestos under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). These requirements will apply to manufacturers, importers, and processors of asbestos and asbestos-containing articles, including as an impurity and as a component in a mixture for activities during the four years prior to the publication of this final rule (2019-2022).
Regulatory background
Asbestos is a mineral fiber that occurs in rock and soil and, due to its fiber strength and heat resistance, has been used in building construction materials for insulation and as a fire retardant.
