Advocates petition EPA to remove 600 PFAS approved under TSCA exemptions

Earthjustice has petitioned the U.S. EPA to revoke the approval of approximately 600 per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) that were granted through low-volume or low-release and low-exposure exemptions to the premanufacture notice requirements of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).

  • Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a large class of synthetic fluorinated organic compounds, a group of chemicals that includes perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), hexafluoropropylene oxide (HFPO) dimer acid and its ammonium salt, known as GenX, along with many other chemicals.
